About
bobmiller
Bob Miller's passion for technology can be traced to a simple BASIC program written on a Radio Shack TRS-80 in 1981. Within a few years, he purchased two home computers and quickly developed a genuine curiosity for all things technical, with a particular interest in video games and programming. Before finishing his freshman year in high school, a career path had already been decided upon. Bob realized the dream of owning his own consulting company when he founded SystemsReady.
Bob attended Penn State University for two years before leaving school early to pursue his career. His first "real" job involved system administration on an IBM System/36 midrange computer, during which time he learned RPG and COBOL. In a relatively short time, he was hired by a local consulting firm and continued to familiarize himself with other IBM platforms of the time, including the AS/400, RS/6000 and PS/2. By the mid-1990s, his skill set grew to include PC networking and communication of heterogeneous systems, along with software development in C++, VB and other object oriented languages. Today, his desire for continued learning drives SystemsReady forward into modern technologies.
The majority of Bob's career has been in the consulting sector, spanning over three decades. He has a wide breadth of experience in working with customers and assessing business needs, including gathering requirements, system architecture, software design, development and testing. He has a strong understanding of application tiers and network models, and is often called upon to assist in resolving complex issues that sit in the mysterious "gray area" between hardware and software. Bob considers himself a "nuts and bolts" kind of guy who strives to understand how things work, finding the investigative aspects of his field to be the most rewarding.
As a young man, Bob was heavily influenced by his father and grandfather, both of whom taught him the value of quality workmanship. At an early age, he learned important lessons about doing things the right way and with whole-hearted effort; lessons which lay the groundwork for all projects at SystemsReady. He knows that few shortcuts are worth taking. Bob is a firm believer that the software you build is a reflection of your own sense of values, and the final product should be something you take pride in and stand behind. In this way, he honors the heroes who shaped his way of thinking for the better.
When he isn't designing systems or writing code, Bob enjoys the great outdoors; particularly national parks and other places of historic or natural significance. His other hobbies include spending time with family, travel, yoga, reading the classics and playing drums.
